In the News

Holiday greeting from your friends at the MS-BA/MS-Tech Program. Champaign-Urbana has experienced its’ first snow and ice and the students are finishing up finals so the lucky ones can head somewhere warm for winter break.
This semester has 49 interested and fascinating students in the Class of 2008 and also much change in the administration environment. JE Miller and Lorena Nicholas have moved to new roles in the College of Business. In November, Dean of the College of Business Avijit Ghosh accepted a position as Vice President for Technology and Economic Development for the three-campus University of Illinois system. Professor Larry DeBrock, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Acting Associate Dean of the Faculty in the College of Business, was appointed as Interim Dean of the College of Business and will serve until a permanent dean has been identified. Professor Huseyin Leblebici stepped down as the head of the Business Administration Department and Professor Randall Westgren was appointed current head. The new Business Instructional Facility, located just west of Wohlers Hall, continues to progress with anticipation of fall 2008 classes taking place there.
Professor Dilip Chhajed continues to serve as director of the MS-Tech Program with Amy Holland as the Program secretary. Donna Foley joined us in December as the Assistant Director and will be responsible for program activities, alumni affairs, marketing and recruiting.
This fall has kept us busy with many favorite activities. Thanks to your input, we built the Outdoor Challenge into a two-day retreat, including team building workshops, a case competition and an over-night stay at the Allerton Conference Center in Monticello. We also held the Etiquette Dinner early in the semester to prepare students for dinner interviews and cheered the Illini football team on to victory with a pre-game tailgate party with students from the MSF and MSA programs.
This year’s class enjoyed many interesting and diverse presentations including:
- Professor Steven Eckhoff, Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering;
- Lee Shapiro, President of Allscripts;
- Professor PR Kumar, Franklin Woeltge Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Coordinated Science Lab Research; and
- Professor Steve Boppart, Professor of Bioimaging Science and Technology and Director of the Mills Breast Cancer Institute.
Our field trips included corporate headquarters of three Illinois companies: Motorola in Schaumburg; Horizon Hobby in Champaign; and Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in Decatur. ADM was a special trip this year as Daniel Ayimadu ’07, now employed by ADM, met and talked with the students.
We are always delighted to hear from you and appreciate your recommendation of the MS-Tech Program to your friends and colleagues. Please feel free to contact us with your news, ideas or questions. We wish each of you the happiest of holidays!
