Campus and Community

The Daily Illini is a free, student-organized daily newspaper. It lists campus and local community events including cultural exhibits, performances, academic lectures, sports events, community fairs, movies, and other events. The newspaper is free, and you can find it in most buildings on campus.

The MS-Tech program office receives the local Champaign-Urbana newspaper, the News-Gazette. It arrives after 3:00 pm each afternoon. It contains local events and campus activities. Also available in the program office are the Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times.

The program office has notebooks full of information about community and state events. There are flyers about many destinations within the state of Illinois. There is a notebook specifically with golf information for the warm weather and one with ski information for cold weather. The program office's bulletin board has a section specifically for campus events. There are schedules of events, lectures, and activities.

The Champaign and Urbana Park districts list events and activities on their websites: and. Some of these events are free; others require a fee and registration.

Public libraries offer a wealth of community information and programs and events for people of all ages as well as books, videos, music, and reference materials. Anyone living in Champaign or Urbana can get a free library card and check out materials without charge. The Champaign Public Library is at 505 South Randolph Street. The Urbana Public Library is located at 201 S. Race Street.

There are many campus clubs and organizations for specific interests. The University of Illinois lists registered organizations at http://www.union.uiuc.edu/involvement/rso.htm.

The YMCA offers many activities for people of all ages. The YMCA has two main locations in town:1001 S. Wright Street (on campus) and 500 W. Church in Champaign.
