Clothing

During regular classroom lectures, casual attire is acceptable. This includes blue jeans and other casual clothes. The winters in Champaign-Urbana are often quite cold, averaging temperatures of 23 degrees Fahrenheit in January, so a warm coat, hats, gloves and boots are needed.

Most field trips will require American business attire. For men, this means a dress shirt with tie, a suit jacket, matching pants, dress socks and dress shoes. For women, this means a blouse, a suit jacket with matching pants or skirt and dress shoes (closed-toe). Open-toed shoes are not appropriate. For our week-long field trip to San Francisco, it will be useful to have a carry-on bag or backpack for the plane and a piece of luggage for one week of clothes.

For some events, "business casual" may be required. For men, this includes a polo shirt or button-down shirt with no tie, nice pants such as corduroys, chinos, or khakis. For women, this includes a polo shirt or blouse and nice pants such as corduroys, chinos, or khakis. Blue jeans are not acceptable for business casual.
