The MS-Tech Program is unique in that it combines the development
of essential business principles and skills with an emphasis
on the fundamental role that technology plays in managing the business
enterprise. Unlike traditional business programs, the MS-Tech Program
immerses students in case studies on integrating new technology, the benefits
of technology infrastructure, and problem solving through technology.
This specialized knowledge of technology as a problem solving tool and
change driver allows MS-Tech graduates to develop into more effective
managers and leaders, and to adapt more readily to changes in the marketplace.
Specific highlights of the program include:
- A curriculum designed around
the concepts of integrated and active learning. Most required
courses build upon one another throughout the curriculum and are delivered
as eight-week modules, thereby providing for a broad array of
topics over the 12-month program. This curriculum is enhanced by various
team projects and presentations focusing on real-world issues.
- A solid
foundation of core business courses to develop and enhance essential
principles and skills. Specific titles include Managerial Accounting,
Financial Management, Marketing Management, Organization Behavior,
Process Management, and Quantitative Analysis of Decisions.
- A
focused set of technology management courses to emphasize the
state-of-the-art in management ideas, techniques, and practices.
Specific titles include Intellectual Property Management, Managing Innovation,
New Product Development, Project Management, Simulation and Risk
Analysis, Supply Chain Management, and Technology Strategy. These courses
combine with the business core to complete the curriculum and to make
unique the skills and knowledge the MS-Tech program provides to its graduates.
- A
two-semester tech practicum to provide students with a unique
opportunity to integrate coursework into an exploration of any
single topic relevant to the role of technology in management.
- A Frontiers
in Technology seminar series to present cutting-edge research
and up and coming trends in engineering and the biological sciences.
- A
two-course electives sequence to provide students the opportunity
to customize the curriculum to their needs with a suite of course
options spanning the world-class departments on the Urbana-Champaign campus.
- A
one-year time frame ideal for students eager to obtain an MS
degree at one of the nation's top schools, but unable to take extended
leave from their already busy schedules.
